John Thorpe Richards, Jr.
John Thorpe Richards, Jr. has been in private practice since 1988 when he joined Dunnells, Duvall, Bennett & Porter following a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Albert V. Bryan, Jr., Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. Richards continued his practice at Holland & Knight following its merger with the Dunnells, Duvall firm in 1994. He became a partner at Holland & Knight in 1995. Mr. Richards founded Trout & Richards in July of 1996.
Mr. Richards is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland, and he maintains an active practice in all three jurisdictions. He is a member of the Alexandria Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the federal trial and appellate courts for the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.
Mr. Richards, earned his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1984 from St. Lawrence University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his J.D. in 1987 from the University of Virginia, where he served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law.
