John Thorpe Richards, Jr.
John Thorpe Richards, Jr. entered private practice in 1988 following a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Albert V. Bryan, Jr., then Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Having served as a partner in a major national law firm, he founded Trout & Richards in July of 1996. Mr. Richards now practices at Bogorad & Richards PLLC, which he founded in 2015, and is “of counsel” to Trout Cacheris & Janis.
Mr. Richards is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland, and he maintains an active practice in all three jurisdictions. He is a member of the Alexandria Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also admitted to practice in the federal trial and appellate courts for the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.
Mr. Richards earned his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1984 from St. Lawrence University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his J. D. in 1987 from the University of Virginia, where he served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law.
